Transformation of the Day: Adjoa lost 75 pounds by becoming a Pescatarian and doing weighted hula hooping. During her transformation journey, she faced divorce, the start of a new career, and the loss of her only sister. Through it all, she has persevered.
I met my weight loss goal in 2019, while my life was going through a significant transformation. I went from a wife and a business-owning stay-at-home mom of two to a single mom of 2, full-time working teacher and owner of two businesses.
I used exercise, along with changing my diet, as a “distraction, so to speak, while I was going through the divorce process. Not only was it a healing experience for me, but it allowed me to see myself in ways I had never really seen me before.
How did you change your eating habits?
I switched to a Pescatarian lifestyle [vegetarian who eats seafood]. I went cold turkey when I started the pescatarian diet, although I already didn’t consume a lot of red meat to begin with. Before going pescatarian, I only ate chicken, turkey and fish, lots of sweets and carbs.
Tell us about your workout routine.
The only exercise I do is weighted hula hooping. I use the hoops for more than hooping though. I use them for arm curls, leg curls, and pretty much anything else I could think of.
I hula-hoop daily for at least an hour. Not only does it help me lose weight, but it also sets the tone and the pace for my day. I say my affirmations and meditate while hooping, and everything becomes clear in my mind.
What was meant for me to use as a coping tool, has now been transformed into yet another business avenue and a platform to inspire and empower other women to make healthier lifestyle changes. I teach hula hooping techniques as a fitness tool, and I share my story with women all over the world.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I was able to meet my weight loss goal, losing 75 pounds, going from 262 pounds to 186.6 pounds. I turned 42 years old last November, and I’ve got a lot more life to live!!

I’m 5’8″ inches tall.

I began my journey (this time) on Jan 1, 2019.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is how to manage my triggers and life crises. I’m an emotional eater, and since losing weight, I’ve gotten divorced, started a new career, and I’ve lost my only sister (on 2/1/2020) When you are aware of your triggers you can maintain proactive measures to avoid self-sabotaging behaviors.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Don’t just follow trends that you see working for everyone else. Explore many options and find what works for you. It may require thinking outside the box and being innovative.
