Keto diet is a diet plan that reduces carbohydrates intake and replaces it with fats. On the keto diet, you eat only less carbohydrates so that your body can’t rely on glucose for energy.
And since keto meals are loaded with fat, your body switches over to using fat for energy instead of carbohydrates. Some of the side effects are:
- Ketone breath: When your body goes to ketosis state it will produce ketones as a byproduct which includes acetone. You will eventually exhale them out called ketone breath.
- Muscle loss: Muscle loss is a possible side effect of a ketogenic diet. This may cause due to the fact that protein alone is less effective for muscle building.
- Vitamin deficiency: As keto diet restricts some fruits and vegetables, it may result in vitamin deficiency. Because of this reason, keto diet is considered as a short term diet plan.
- Keto flu: Keto flu is a side effect that happens when your body enters into ketosis state. The symptoms are fatigue, brain fog, dizziness, vomiting, nausea and stomach pain.
Some side effects of the keto diet are bound to occur, though others only happen when the diet is implemented poorly. These side effects can be avoided by careful planning.
