I’ve been on the ketogenic diet for over a month now. I’ve lost 13 pounds which is really great. However, over the past weekend, I was not in the best shape. I felt dizzy, unmotivated, and my energy level was quite low. These symptoms are similar to what I felt when I was going through the keto flu. Needless to say, I was confused. With a month into keto, I shouldn’t be feeling this way. I took some time to reflect on what I could be doing wrong. I knew I wasn’t eating more than 20 net carbs per day. In fact, I was barely eating at all. So, I came up with the theory that the reason I was feeling bad over the weekend was because I was not eating enough. To be successful on the ketogenic diet, you need to watch your carb count, but you also need to make sure you are eating enough calories during the day to be satiated. The problem is I don’t really have an appetite and I hate forcing myself to eat. My solution to this problem is finding a good meal replacement shake. This way I can get all of my healthy nutrients and calories, without having to force food down my throat. I traveled long and far (to my local Kroger), to find a meal replacement shake to try. There were a few options, but this one stood out to me; mostly because the word KETO is written in huge print on the front of the container.

  • Free from gluten, artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors
  • Whey and Collagen Protein
  • Grass-Fed Butter and MCTs
  • Clinically proven: Lose Weight and Keep it Off
  • 4g Net Carbs
  • 8g Protein
  • 15g Fat

The shake tastes great. I have the fudge brownie batter flavor. I would have to say it definitely tastes like brownie batter. There are two shake flavors to choose from, the other is vanilla cake batter. This shake mix is full of healthy vitamins and minerals essential to the ketogenic diet. Those are literally the only pros.

I didn’t find this meal replacement shake satisfying at all. In the past, I’ve had a meal replacement shake that was so thick, I needed a glass of water to wash it down. I could go hours without feeling like I needed to eat. After drinking the SlimFast shake, I still need to eat something to keep me from feeling sick. I usually eat some roasted mixed nuts or blueberries. If this is a meal replacement shake, I should not have to eat any food with it to feel satisfied. Also, I didn’t get the amount of product I was expecting. After drinking one shake a day for the past three days, I am already halfway done with the container.

Honestly, I would not recommend this product as a meal replacement. Although it contains many essential nutrients, the SlimFast KETO shake is not very satiating. I think this is great for satisfying a sweet craving, or as an addition to a meal but it does not do much on its own. SlimFast sells a whole line of products dedicated to the ketogenic diet. In addition to the shakes, they have snacks, meal bars, and other keto basics including MCT oil and ketone test strips. I plan to review some of the other products in the near future. If you’ve tried this shake before, comment down below and tell me what you think of it.
