Transformation of the Day: Heike lost 25 pounds and lots of inches. Our Bajan sista wanted to be able to run around and play with her young daughter without being tired or out of breath. She joined a six-week transformation challenge and fully committed to getting results.
My name is Heike, and I am from the beautiful island of Barbados. I joined your Facebook group a few months ago, and I am so happy I did.
I just completed the 3rd round of a six-week challenge, and I want to share my before and after transformation. I’ve lost 25 pounds.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
As a mother of a 16-month-old daughter, I realized that I had to change my lifestyle if I wanted to see her grow up. I needed to be able to run around and play with her without being tired all the time. I would be out of breath, just standing still, so I knew it was time to make a change.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started on the Keto diet, and I cut out all carbs, sugars, and processed
foods. That meant giving up my favorite desserts. I also started eating more green vegetables and added lots of healthy fats to my diet (i.e., olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil). I also had to get creative with my meals so I wouldn’t get bored. All in all, the journey has been fun.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you workout?
I did HIIT three times a week and walking and/or jogging two days a week. I took the weekends off because I wanted to spend time with my family and get some rest. I also did three rounds of a six-week challenge where the objective was to lose 12 or more pounds per round. The name of the challenge is the D-12 Challenge.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 233 pounds, and that is the heaviest I have EVER been. When I saw the numbers on the scale, I was so shocked and disappointed at the damage I was doing to my body — seeing that number lit a fire under me to get the weight off.
What is your height?
I am 5 feet, 2 inches tall.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started on May 13th, 2019, the day after my 29th birthday. My transformation took four months.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I can safely say that the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that my determination and drive is higher than I ever expected.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
You have to change your mindset first. You have to be hungry for change. You must be passionate about it and make sure you have a support system in place. Finally, don’t put it off any longer, just do it .
