Keto. Yay or Nay?

Last blog post was about how keto works. Now I am going to share the benefits and well maybe bad side of keto as well.

ADVANTAGE

  9. IMPROVES YOUR SKIN

DISADVANTAGE

  1. KETO FLU
  2. RESTRICTIVE
  3. COST
  4. NOT WIDELY AVAILABLE
  5. NEED TO TRACK CARBOHYDRATE VALUES IN FOOD
  6. NEED TO SUBSTITUTE A LOT OF STAPLE FOOD
  7. NEED TO SELECT FOOD OUTLET WHEN GOING OUT

Keto both have its good side and bad side. My Question would be which bad side you want to choose- Be fat or Do Keto? Its difficult to do but i feel extremely bad when I am fat. Chances are you already struggled with your weight or have minimal effect with other diet and looking for more ways to shed your weight of. Or maybe you just stumbled upon my weight loss transformation in my Instagram/ Facebook >.< *ROFL*

Whichever your reason was let me further explain those Advantage and Disadvantage

ADVANTAGES

FAST WEIGHT LOSS
I never thought that this was possible. Really. I was even skeptical initially when I first started. Imagine I am nearly surprised everyday with how fast this is going. I already told my weight story loss in my first blog post if you haven’t read it yet. Then I realised what they showed in the internet was true after all. They almost all lose half of their body weight with keto diet.They lose 5-10kg in matter of weeks (well this is mostly water weight, but kg is still kg) and still doing keto even after losing all that weight. AND I KNOW WHY. Fat burning baby * Yay*

I did try dieting few years back. I told this story in my Instagram if you follow it. I tried Herbalife meal replacement back when I was in University because it was Hallyu wave that time. I wanted to be super skinny *LOL* and healthy weight for Korean people seems to be less than 50kg. I was 55kg. I did very low calorie diet (700-1000 kcal per day) with almost 3x per week HIIT. I did lose weight. 3kg >.< and I gained it back shortly after. I was kinda skinny with 52kg (according to my friend they told me to stop dieting) which I did- stop dieting and I just gained it back. *Maybe i was meant to be 55kg since i look well normal lean girl *

ALMOST NO HUNGER PANG

Well ever tried eating lotsa cheese and butter or just chicken/ meat etc? What did you feel? You feel full faster and longer. Keto food is high fat moderate protein food- Fat is they key to no craving and no hunger pangs- This is why keto works very good with intermittent fasting- you don’t feel hungry.

Reason for being hungry is when your food is already processed and your hormone insulin drops down. Insulin is one of satiety hormone. If they drop down they will stimulate your brain to tell your body you are hungry. Thats why even more carbohydrate or sugar you tend to become hungry again and again even if by right you already reach your nutrional calories of the day. In keto diet, you do not stimulate the insulin release. You are using fat for energy. Eating fat increase your satiety. And you always have constant supply of fat from your body- hence no hunger and fat is always burned–hence your weight loss

INCREASED YOUR ENERGY

Dang. That mental clarity is why I love keto as well. Ketone provides more energy than glucose and you will feel more energetic ( but not during keto flu- you will feel tired).

When I did keto I can wake up fresh in the morning and have a good sleep at night. A lot of keto dieter experience this. They feel surge of energy ( after fat adapted). I think its because ketone have more energy. I can’t quite understand how it boost your mental clarity-my thought was maybe because of increased energy from ketone or maybe just because you let your gut system rested during fasting. I am not sure but yeah you can feel a lot of difference in your energy level.

REDUCES YOUR CRAVINGS

Fat and Protein generally increase your satiety. No sugar means less cravings. Add them both voila– reduce your cravings more. If you are still craving means your fat intake is not optimized yet. Increase your fat intake in your diet. Or maybe we are just normal human being that craves food in front of us >.<

IMPROVES YOUR HEALTH
I read one story about a guy that is morbidly obese with type 2 diabetes mellitus and have cardivascular disease and history if heart attack. He improves his sugar level over time ( keto no sugar- no type 2 diabetes) and reduces his bad cholestrol level (LDL) and increased his good cholestrol (HDL). INTERMITTENT FASTING COMBO

Mostly I encounter people having difficulties with IF as they tend to be hungry. Difficult to control their craving. It also happened to me. That’s why I chose this diet- as I continue binge in sugary and starchy food once I start eating them. As keto reduce your appetite IF become more natural for you. I even can fast 48H with keto but not with standard diet.You can see a lot of people on KETO OMAD ( one meal a day diet) as it actually feels kinda natural to not eat when you are not hungry ?

AMAZING FOOD

Have you seen Keto recipes. They are the bomb. I don’t even feel like I am dieting on this diet. Perhaps I will share my favorite keto recipes in my blog

LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT EXERCISE
Thats a given. Your body already burning your fat by itself. You eat lesser food because you are not hungry. This two combo is enough to make you lose weigh itself. Exercise is helping you increase need to burn calories (and also hep make you strong) but if you already reduced yor calories then you will lose weight without exercise itself

IMPROVES SKIN

Well only for certain people but I realised my skin had become better when I do keto. Some other people felt it so but its individual. My theory was gluten is kinda bad so when you ditch it then it improves. Well thats just my theory. It’s not proven. But i still believe gluten really have some negative effects in your body

DISADVANTAGES

Well I am only gonna talk about keto flu ya. The rest is kinda known.

My personal experience was fatigue, diarrhea and leg cramps. Other people had headache and also can have constipation. But it only last about 1-2 weeks depending on your body. It’s mostly because of electrolyte imbalance or maybe even the fat adaptation. It will just for a while.After adapting it will be okay. This is the bad side of keto and also when you ‘cheat’ on keto (meaning you ate lotsa carbs-out of keto-and wanting to go back into keto) that you will experience another keto flu yet again >.<
